Pomerene's Midwifery practice includes the independent management of women’s health care, pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, family planning and gynecological services. The CNM demonstrates a high degree of clinical independence and expertise, and educates patients and their families to promote wellness, prevent health problems and maintain current health. This care occurs within the clinics, offices and hospital of Pomerene.

The certified nurse-midwife practices in collaboration with an OB/GYN physician group. Collaboration is defined as a process in which each health care professional contributes his or her expertise to provide more comprehensive care than one health professional alone can provide. A Standard Care Agreement (SCA) is established between the CNM and all collaborating physicians. The nurse-midwife will refer to the collaborative physician any patient with complications which are outside of the scope of practice of the nurse-midwife in accordance with the Standards of Practice of Nurse Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. The CNM is credentialed and granted privileges by the Hospital Board Pomerene.

Pomerene Hospital is located in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country. Amish patients make up nearly 50% of our customer (even higher for midwifery). With our unique customer focus, we provide a three-bedroom furnished “Amish House” on our premises. Amish families who come from afar to seek medical treatment may stay at the “Amish House” to be near their loved ones, and Amish patients with an early morning surgical procedure where transportation may be difficult can also use the “Amish House.” As an organization, we take pride in our culture and provide every employee with cultural training so that great care is given to every patient, every time.

Position Requirements:

  • Performs direct patient care by examining, diagnosing, and analyzing the needs of female patients in relationship to their reproductive health.
  • Develops short and long term patient care goals and treatment for patients in accordance with the standards established for certified nurse-midwives in collaboration with an obstetrician/gynecologist and established protocols.
  • Identifies patient's health problem and administers appropriate medications according to state statutory prescriptive authority or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area.
  • Teaches and counsels individuals, families, groups and other health providers about health, diseases and illnesses and promotes health maintenance and prevention of diseases.
  • Participates as a preceptor for medical students, residents, nurse-midwifery students, and nurse practitioner students.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in current research protocols in accordance with the mission of Pomerene.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Education Requirements: Minimum – Master’s degree in Nursing (or affiliated discipline) Midwifery Certificate from ACNM-accredited education program

License Requirements: Minimum - RN license in the State of Ohio Certificate of Authority (COA) in the State of Ohio Prescriptive authority in the State of Ohio preferred Certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife



Compensation & Benefits Compensation And Benefits

Our compensation structure includes: base salary based on the MGMA standard for our geographical area as well as the potential to earn incentive components including quality, patient satisfaction, and other practice goals. In addition, we offer the potential to earn an incentive, based on WRVU, for providing clinical care during inpatient hospital coverage.  Other benefits include health insurance, professional liability coverage, CME allowance, paid time off (PTO) and retirement plan participation.
